The Karpiel Steindel Architektura architecture office was set up in 2006 by Jan Karpiel Bułecka Jr. and Marcin Steindel. Karpiel and Steindel bring back to life the traditional housing styles of the Podhale countryside, translating them to the modern language of architecture. The office develops projects characterised by modern look, restraint in the choice of details, and sensitivity to the cultural surroundings.
Architects have accumulated a number of awards. In 2016, the architecture house received the Stanisław Witkiewicz Award, granted by the Region of Małopolska for the best contemporary architecture project, contributing to the protection and preservation of the cultural landscape of Małopolska. The office has also been granted twice the prestigious European Property Award for the projects “House in Tatra” and “Restoration of the old Farm”.
Jan Karpiel “Bułecka”
Jan Karpiel “Bułecka” comes from a family of Zakopane architects. Fascinated by drawing, artistic carpentry and regional architecture, he received his degree in architecture from the Cracow University of Technology.
Marcin Steindel
Born and raised in Kraków, however, with strong attachment to Zakopane through his ancestors, particularly his great-great-grandfather, Wincenty Witos. In his architecture designs, he conveys his love of patrician housing architecture. He received his degree in architecture from the Cracow University of Technology.
